Earth observation (EO) is the driving force for connecting space and Earth, and it is constantly evolving thanks to the relentless pursuit of innovation and scientific excellence. Celebrating the valuable contributions of EO explorers worldwide, European Space Agency (ESA) is back with the 3rd edition of the EO Excellence Award!
The EO Excellence Award aims to put the spotlight on scientific researchers and innovators that are pushing the boundaries of Earth Observation for addressing the challenges of our everchanging planet. The award further promotes an EO community that fosters international collaboration and outreach through its unique nomination process, where Nominators have the opportunity to support budding researchers in the early stages of their careers.
Since the inception of the award in 2021, the EO Excellence Award has received more than 40 nominations addressing numerous topics from EO data processing to demand-driven solutions from 17 countries. This year brings an additional highlight – an exciting monitory prize of up to 35K Euro for individual winner and 65K Euro for team winner, intended to support proposed research activities in the EO field.
Reflecting on the success of the EO Excellence Award 2023, ESA’s Director of Earth Observation, Simonetta Cheli, expressed her delight, stating, “Building on the resounding success of the previous awards, I am delighted to announce that ESA is offering the winners of the 2024 edition the chance to secure funding to further their pioneering research in the use of Earth observation – a fantastic opportunity for early-career scientists.”
Does your research broaden the understanding of Earth Observation as we know it? Or do you know some emerging innovators that should be put on the centre-stage? If your answer is yes, check out the EO Excellence Award 2024!
