ESA BIC Bavaria congratulates its incubatee Cevotec GmbH on raising EUR 1.75 million in their first investment round. Thereby Cevotec is able to industrialise the production of complex carbon composites and to introduce industry 4.0 to the respective area of application.
Cevotec is introducing patch-based manufacturing to the market – a completely new approach to producing complex carbon composites. By doing so, Cevotec is introducing industry 4.0 to the areas of fibre composite applications. Thereby, a carbon fibre spread tow is cut into patches for a robot to pick up and automatically place onto a forming tool. Patch by patch, a carbon fibre preform is produced using this additive technique. The company optimises the orientation and position of the patches with an efficient software taking over work from the engineers in the segment of product development.
For their first financing round, the startup was able to convince the High-Tech Gründerfonds, Bayern Kapital as well as three Business Angels of the BayStartUP network. With this investment Cevotec wants to finance the development of the software and the production plant for the series maturity. The participated Business Angels also provide relevant know-how for the startup. Cevotec is based at the ESA BIC Bavaria location Ottobrunn, where it also profits from Airbus Defence and Space’s technical expertise.
Cevotec GmbH
Cevotec is bringing the Fiber Patch Placement (FPP) technology to market – an automated, patch-based production technology for carbon fibre preforms that follows a completely new approach to manufacturing. As the one-stop shop for this technology, Cevotec provides customised production systems that include an easy-to-use software suite for patch laminates. Cevotec also offers product development and production as a service for OEMs. The customers benefit from better and lighter products of the highest quality – all through scalable serial production techniques devised in Germany.
ESA Business Incubation Centre Bavaria
Cevotec is incubated at the ESA BIC Bavaria from October 2015 to September 2017. The ESA BIC Bavaria seeks entrepreneurs using space technologies in a non-space environment. That does not mean rocket science, but applies to multiple application fields such as navigation and positioning, communications techniques, Earth observation, materials, processes, signals or robotics.
ESA’s Business Incubation Centre Bavaria was launched in 2009 and is since managed by Anwendungszentrum GmbH Oberpfaffenhofen (AZO). ESA BIC Bavaria and its renowned partners – DLR, Airbus Defense and Space, Fraunhofer IIS and Wirtschaftsförderungsgesellschaft Berchtesgadener Land – provide startups with financial and technical support at four branch offices: Oberpfaffenhofen, Ottobrunn, Nürnberg and Berchtesgadener Land.
ESA BIC Bavaria has four selection rounds each year. The next application deadline for the incubation programme is 29 August 2016. Apply now for ESA BIC Bavaria
