ESA BIC Bavaria alumnus TerraLoupe digitises the outside world by using artificial intelligence. In 2017, the startup started a feasibility study, funded by mFUND, together with the project partner German Aerospace Center (DLR) – institute for optical sensor systems in Berlin. mFUND is an initiative of the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) supporting research and development projects around digital data-based applications for mobility 4.0. In addition to the financial support, mFUND supports networking between actors from politics, business and research as well as access to the data portal mCLOUD with various event formats.
TerraLoupe automatically recognises objects in aerial images by analysis with deep learning algorithms. By using aerial images from aircraft with pilots or drone images, which are then automatically analysed with neural networks, they are able to create a 3D world. Currently, the three main sectors the company focuses on are insurance, the solar industry and autonomous driving.
Stay tuned for the results of the feasibility study in April this year. In June 2015, TerraLoupe joined the ESA BIC Bavaria network.
