“Land der Ideen” – a German initiative encouraging innovative and outstanding ideas – paid a visit to AZO and talked about the potential space offers for new digital mobility solutions, especially for startups. Two brilliant business cases are presented by our ESA BIC Bavaria alumni Scoo.me and tiramizoo.
We at AZO specialise in promoting startups and innovation the commercial use of space technologies. This might sound a bit like rocket science, but actually what we do it quite “down to Earth” – with a huge number of products and applications for example in the key segment smart mobility. Space infrastructures, namely global satellite navigation systems like GPS are key for today’s mobility, offering personal navigation and precise positioning solutions. Many new smart mobility solutions are based on digital business models, the most interesting and promising ones often provided by young, innovative startups. “The innovation competition “Deutscher Mobilitätspreis” is annually seeking Germany’s best new mobility ideas and solutions – and I am honored to be part of the expert jury for this great initative,” explains Thorsten Rudolph, CEO of AZO. The organizer of “Deutscher Mobilitätspreis”, “Land der Ideen” – a joint initiative of the German government and German industries to encourage innovative and outstanding ideas – recently paid a visit to our AZO premises in the aerospace hotspot Oberpfaffenhofen to talk to Thorsten Rudolph and two of our ESA BIC Bavaria alumni, Scoo.me and tiramizoo. scoo mobility GmbH is a new urban mobility provider headquartered in Munich, Germany. The market leader in the scooter-sharing segment, this young company, supported by ESA BIC Bavaria, focuses on offering its target users – modern, lifestyle-oriented people interested in preserving the environment – access to the rental platform scoo.me. They can then use its fleet of keyless scooters as a fast, simple, and flexible means of getting around cities and their surroundings. All of these high-quality Piaggio (Vespa) and Peugeot models feature a seat for two, a helmet, and highly efficient motors. Each of the company’s scooters also sports the scoo.me logo and a unique number that makes it easy to identify. Through this rent-a-scooter concept, which has been rolled out in Munich and Cologne thus far, scoo mobility hopes to provide coverage to areas underserved by car-sharing, bike-sharing, and public transport services.
Same Day Delivery with tiramizoo
With Same Day Delivery (SDD) from tiramizoo, same-day deliveries in urban areas are carried out on the same day. Whether as an immediate service or in the desired time window – the delivery is always reliable, on time and independent of minimum quantities. This scalable logistics variant is ideal for national chain stores who want to supply goods flexibly and without interruption from the local branch or from a local warehouse to local customers.
ESA Business Incubation Centre Bavaria
The ESA BIC Bavaria seeks entrepreneurs using space technologies in a non-space environment. That does not mean rocket science, but applies to multiple application fields such as navigation and positioning, communications techniques, Earth observation, materials, processes, signals or robotics.
ESA’s Business Incubation Centre Bavaria was launched in 2009 and is since managed by Anwendungszentrum GmbH Oberpfaffenhofen (AZO). ESA BIC Bavaria and its renowned partners – DLR, Airbus Defense and Space, Fraunhofer IIS and Wirtschaftsförderungsgesellschaft Berchtesgadener Land – provide startups with financial and technical support at four branch offices: Oberpfaffenhofen, Ottobrunn, Nürnberg and Berchtesgadener Land.
