Established 2002 in Bavaria as the first European space incubator, AZO has been managing ESA BIC Bavaria since 2009 with financial support from the Bavarian Ministry of Economics and its partners: European Space Agency (ESA), German Aerospace Center (DLR), Airbus Defense and Space, Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS, KSK München Starnberg Ebersberg. ESA BIC Bavaria is part of the Europe-wide network of 16 ESA Business Incubation Centres (ESA BICs). At three Bavarian locations, Oberpfaffenhofen, Ottobrunn and Nuremberg, startups highly benefit from the direct access to space technologies, expert advice and technical facilities. The incubation programme provides a comprehensive support programme, from financing to research and development, all the way through to market entry.
AZO with its ESA BIC Bavaria and partners supported more than 130 startups since 2002 with an annual turnover of round about EUR 150 Mio in 2016, creating more than 1.800 high-tech jobs in Bavaria and involving the exciting amount of annually more than EUR 130 Mio Venture Capital. During the lasts years, ESA BIC Bavaria promoted pioneering companies with disruptive products and digital businesses in areas like robotics, mobile, mobility, automotive, aviation, satellites etc. ESA BIC Bavaria is one of the most successful incubation programs in Europe.
