ESA BIC Bavaria Alumni Mynaric AG Wins Business Award

Prospering startups that are evolving into companies with a growing workforce play a key role in the local development of society, employment and the economy. With their pionieering business solutions, they are drivers of innovation and shape the future.

In 2004, we started the first space business incubator in the Bavarian aerospace hotspot Oberpfaffenhofen. The lake district (Starnberg and Ammersee) is one of Germany’s most attractive regions for innovative new companies (4th place according to a ranking by the Institut für Mittelstandsforschung (IfM)). Furthermore, it has one of Gemany’s highest per capita number of patent applications. This creative and innovative scene offers the perfect space for business innovation. ESA BIC Bavaria is one of the most successful incubation programmes in Europe.

The local business award “Zukunftsgestalter” 2019 was scouting for the most innovative new business in the district Starnberg. On 7 November, the festive awards ceremony brought together this year’s 10 finalists as well as high-level representatives from the local administration and economy.

Three ESA BIC Bavaria innovators were among the 10 finalists: Mynaric AG, Quantum Systems GmbH and Hawa Dawa GmbH.

The winner, Mynaric AG, was revealed and honoured by the local district administrator Karl Roth. Mynaric is a laser communication company which develops and manufactures laser products, allowing high data rate and long-distance wireless data transmission between moving objects for terrestrial, airborne and space applications. The ESA BIC Bavaria alumnus also was the winner of the 2016 INNOspace Masters Airbus Challenge.

Quantum Systems creates innovative vertical take-off and landing fixed wing drones.

Hawa Dawa is transforming data on air pollution into real insights for greener cities and future-oriented companies.
